UNESCO and ECO Science Foundation agreed to jointly organize the meeting of South and Central Asian MAB Networks (SACAM)
Ms. Kristine Tovmasyan Science Officer of the UNESCO Cluster Office Almaty-Kazakhstan called upon the President ECO Science Foundation Prof. Dr. Manzoor Hussain Soomro on 12 October 2015 in Almaty for the discussion on collaborative activities especially the UNESCO MAB (Man and Biosphere) program. Ms. Tovmasyan also required consultation of Dr. Soomro for jointly organizing the next meeting of South and Central Asia MAB Networks (SACAM). It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Soomro had been instrumental in reviving the MAB program of Pakistan and then leading it successfully when he was chairman of Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF). The MAB program is now being promoted by ECOSF under the leadership of Dr. Soomro in collaboration with various International stakeholders specially UNESCO. The UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty-Kazakhstan is catering for the UNESCO activities in four countries viz, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. These are all member states of ECO. Owing to the aim of promotion of stronger collaboration among ECO member states, ECO Science Foundation has agreed to jointly organize these meetings with UNESCO. Ms. Tovmasyan discussed the necessary arrangements with Prof. Soomro for organizing SACAM-ECO joint activity in Almaty. President ECOSF guided her for finalization of the documents and other necessary preparations. He also suggested that senior experts from UNESCO HQs Paris and Regional Science Bureau Jakarta as well as from Russia may be invited to participate. He also proposed to invite Director Environment of ECO Secretariat.
President ECOSF and UNESCO Science Officer Almaty discuss joint organization of SACAM-ECO MAB Networks meeting - 12 Oct 2015
The UNESCO and ECOSF would mainly bear the expenses of the joint meeting which is expected to be held in the 1st week of December, 2015. In this regard UNESCO- Kazakhstan will communicate officially and share the programme of the activity with the SACAM member states while ECOSF will share the information with ECO Secretariat and ECO member states.
